“The Texas State University System Polk County Center has lots of classes kicking off this spring semester,” Executive Director Kristin Tow-Walker said during Wednesday’s meeting of the Livingston Lions Club.

An information session for those interested in pursuing nurse aide certification is slated for 2-6 p.m. Thursday. Nurse aide certificate classes begin Jan. 21 and these are prerequisite courses for the LVN program which will be available in the fall.

“There is still time to get admitted and enrolled for any of the classes that begin Jan. 21,” Tow-Walker said. These courses include criminal justice, nursing, education, business management, teacher aide exemption classes.

“Java & Justice – Brewing Conversations on Criminal Justice” – slated for 4-6 p.m. Tuesday – is an opportunity to learn about the criminal justice program that begins Jan. 21.

A business career mixer and an EMT debriefing session is slated for 4-6 p.m. Wednesday. Those interested may meet the faculty and learn about the classes that will be offered.

A teachers of tomorrow rally is slated for noon to 3 p.m. on Friday.

Additionally, an ESL & GED career connections event will be held from 4-6 p.m. on Feb. 5.

“Come by the campus to meet faculty and advisers and learn about the courses that are being offered this spring,” Tow-Walker said.

“We have new programs to become a real estate agent, an accountant, HVAC or a child development associate and we need faculty for all of these new programs so if you know of someone who might be interested in teaching any of these fields, please send them my way,” she said.

“We’re growing, but we still need students, and we have staff available to assist students with the financial aid process so share the good news with everyone you know,” Tow-Walker said.
