A web-based survey to gain input on the qualities and qualifications desired in the new superintendent of schools is on the Livingston Independent School District’s website at livingstonisd.com and will remain up until tonight (Sunday). The survey may also be found at https://surveys.tasb.org/s3/Livingston-ISD-Leadership-Survey-2025. It is a short, seven-question survey and the responses will play a crucial role in assisting the board in the selection process.
Joe Dan Lee and Cara Cook with Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) Executive Search Services (ESS) held three meetings in the district February 25 – one with administrators, one with faculty and one with community members – seeking input regarding the superintendent search.
“The greater number of responses we get, the more valuable the information is,” Lee said.
Former Superintendent Dr. Brent E. Hawkins left in January to take the superintendent’s job at Copperas Cove ISD. Hawkins served as LISD superintendent from 2014-2025, the longest-tenured superintendent in Livingston’s 117-year history. Janan Moore is serving as the interim superintendent.
The board heard presentations on behalf of three different firms during a Jan. 28 special called meeting and ultimately selected TASB ESS to conduct the search. TASB has been around since 1949 and has been doing superintendent searches since 1988 and there are 10 retired superintendents that serve on the TASB ESS board.
Lee reviewed the timeline during the community meeting February 25. The position has been posted, and the application deadline is midnight March 4. On March 11, he will meet with the board to screen the applications and narrow it down to six people who will be interviewed, before being narrowed down again to three people for a second round of interviews. A lone finalist will be named and then there is a statutorily required 21-day waiting period before the lone finalist may be officially hired.
