Onalaska preparing for May general election

An ordinance ordering the City of Onalaska’s May 3 General Election will be considered for approval during the regular meeting of the Onalaska City Council at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

In related activity, Council will consider approval of an interlocal agreement between the city and Polk County to acquire the use of certain items of equipment and services of the county. Council will also consider approval of an interlocal agreement between the city and the Onalaska Independent School District for the purpose of conducting the joint election.

A resolution regarding the Onalaska Municipal Court Youth Diversion Program will be reviewed and considered for approval.

Council is slated to authorize the city administrator to request proposals for exclusive garbage collection services with a due date of 3 p.m. on March 14. Additionally, Council is expected to appoint a selection review committee to score the proposals and make a recommendation.

Council will consider approval to add a 2006 Ford pickup truck to the city surplus to be sold “as is” and “without warranty” for no less than $2,000, listing all the details on the city website and to remain posted for no less than 10 days.

Departmental reports will be presented on behalf of the police department, fire department, fire marshal/fire inspector, building inspector/code enforcement officer and library representative.

Other items on the agenda include approval of the minutes, vouchers and financial reports.

A public hearing is slated for 5:30 p.m. to receive comments regarding the submission of an application to the Texas Department of Agriculture for one or more Texas Community Development Block Grant Program grants for the 2025 program year.

An additional public hearing is slated for 6 p.m. to receive comments regarding consideration of a request submitted by the Twin Harbors Subdivision Property Owners Association to accept roads that were previously accepted and maintained by Polk County prior to being abandoned by Polk County on Aug. 13, 2024.

The following roads shall be considered: Twin Harbors Drive (between 3186 and Whisperwood), Uvalde (between 3186 and Whisperwood), Arrowhead Drive (between 3186 and Valleyview), Valleyview Drive (between Twin Magnolia and Arrowhead), Parkview Drive (between Twin Harbors and Valleyview), Whisperwood Drive, Lakefront Drive, Harbor Drive, Creek Drive, South Sunset Drive, East Sunset Drive, North Sunset Drive, South Moonlight Drive, East Moonlight Drive, Wildwood Harbor Circle (1,300 feet north of Twin Harbors Drive and 440 feet south), Deerwood Street, Kyle Street, Oakridge Circle, Pine Point Circle and Wildwood Harbor.
