COLDSPRING — The tops of the county, voted on by San Jacinto County residents, were given their just due at the Best of San Jacinto County banquet on Saturday.
Hosted by the Coldspring Chamber of Commerce, 102 winners in 49 categories were named.
Chamber Vice President Calandra Johnson praised the winners, saying “you work hard for this appreciation, and you deserve it because you give so much to the community.”
The annual event is also used as a fundraiser for the chamber’s scholarships; President Jennifer Hoff said that last year, they raised $6,000 and gave out four $1,500 scholarships. Previous scholarship winner Jacelynn Head said that without local scholarships, she wouldn’t have been able to obtain her degrees as a dental hygienist.
Hoff also said that in 2024, the chamber started work on a new website and had great turnouts for its annual Wolf Creek car show and Christmas on the Square.
This year, she said the chamber plans to improve communication with the public and with the business community and plans to work with the city and businesses to promote growth in the community.
“Remember, it takes two — the chamber and you,” Hoff said.
