One of the questions I’m asked is why is the Trinity Police Department so involved in community events?
There are several reasons for this. Let me start with the obvious. Since I have been appointed the police chief, I have made a concerted effort to meet with the citizens of Trinity, at their churches, restaurants, and in their neighborhoods. I actively patrol in your neighborhoods and get out and talk to the residents.
I want to get to know our community and I want them to know who I am and what we stand for. Getting to know the people I serve allows me to understand and provide public safety services to all the citizens of Trinity, not just a select few.
My staff and I are embracing the “community policing ideals,” which is building a partnership between the police department and residents, so we can collectively solve issues in our city. We are transparent about what we are doing at the police department and transparent about who is being arrested.
This helps to reduce the fear of crime and increase accountability of the police department as well as the citizens. The Trinity Police Department hosts events such as the Halloween ‘Treats on the Streets.” We want to provide a safe environment for the kids to tricker treat, while getting to know them and their families.
These are just a few of the reasons why I and my staff are involved in community events. I believe we shouldn’t meet our citizens only when there is an emergency or someone one is in need. We are in this together.
If you have questions, please give me a call.
And remember, call us if you need us.
