Friends of Shepherd Library held its second trivia team fundraiser night on Saturday. The categories ranged from literature to 70s music and extra points were added if you came in costume.
The Madder Hatters group were a big hit, and the silent auction had some wonderful items. Not all of them sold so watch out for a chance to snag one at the Library in the near future. They make great gifts.
Bill Powell was the MC, and the evening included the hilarious marble race, which is shown on a large screen, and you have to bet on one of the marbles, all of which have unusual names. No money is involved; it just added points to your score.
The Library staff and Friends of the Library Board did a wonderful job setting up the venue at Shepherd Community Center. Food was available — Rick McIntyre did his famous Chili. Thank you, Director Terri, Alli and Vicki and all the Board, who worked so hard for this fundraiser in aid of Dolly Parton's Imagination Library.
Everyone was supplied with cups, different tea leaves, bowls and spoons as well as tea strainers to create their “cuppa.’” The hostesses supplying the refreshments this month outdid themselves. I hope you can see from the photo the creative cookies and savories they created for this very special meeting.
Next month will be the Club's Christmas Party at the Senior Center. Bring an unwrapped toy for Toys for Tots and a white elephant gift for the game, keep it under $10. Lunch at the Center is at noon, meeting will follow at 1:30 p.m.
•Vendors are signing up for the Christmas event in Shepherd on Dec. 6. This year it will be in the park beside the Library and City Hall. Santa will be in the gazebo for photos, the DJ will be on the staging area and vendors will have the park area and some frontage along by the Library.
The parade starts at 6 p.m. but will start lining up at 4 p.m. Trophies for first, second and third will be given as well as Santa's Choice. Forms are available at Shepherd Library and online at the Shepherd Chamber of Commerce website. The Parade theme is “A Winter Wonderland.”
