SPURGER – A possible “hit list” allegedly circulating around the Spurger High School community last week did not actually exist, according to Spurger ISD Superintendent Jeff Burnthorn.
Burnthorn said the rumor circulated, and although law enforcement became involved, there was no such “hit list” found to exist.
“This is understandably concerning for students, parents, and staff,” Burnthorn said.
Spurger ISD coordinated with the Tyler County Sheriff’s Office to investigate the rumor, and ultimately, “it was determined that there is no credible or immediate threat,” Burnthorn said.
He added that the district is “currently working to ensure the behaviors that led to the rumor are appropriately addressed and corrected.”
Burnthorn said that the district takes the issue, and any issue of the sort, very seriously, and will continue to monitor the situation and take any additional safety measures that are necessary.
“The safety of all staff and students is our biggest concern. We know that our parents, students, and staff will continue to work together to help maintain a focus on safety and learning in our schools as we continue to address this matter,” he said.
He encouraged anyone with questions or concerns to reach out to him.
