Starting well

Posted

How you begin something always matters. Whether you are building a house or structure, starting a school year, or building a business, how we start something will always impact the long-term effect of what we set out to accomplish.

The first verse of the Bible indicates that “beginnings” matter to God. “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.” Genesis 1:1.

Life began with God and is for God. And even when He grieved creating humanity due to sin, He started again with Noah’s family.

Every year is an opportunity to begin again. It is an opportunity to acknowledge the past but look ahead to the future. There are 52 weeks this year. Instead of thinking in terms of months, think in terms of weeks. Win the week and you will win the month. Win the month and you will win 2026.

Set a new spiritual tone. Paul said in Philippians 4:8, “whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things”.

Pursue a worship filled life that says, “I will praise the Lord at all times; his praise shall continually be in my mouth.” Psalm 34:1

Establish new rhythms. God designed us with these rhythms in mind. Habitual practices of prayer, daily devotion, sacrificial generosity, corporate worship, service, and so much more. The Bible says, “train yourself for godliness; for while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come.” 1 Timothy 1:7

Begin faithfully. All God requires this year is faithfulness. Mistakes in life are guaranteed. But the beauty of the Lord is that “faithfulness” begins with Him. 1 John 1:9 says, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” That sure sounds like a God who loves “beginnings.”

2025 is in the past. 2026 is here. Start well by setting a new tone, establish new rhythms, and stay faithful.
