For those looking for something to occupy their children go to the Facebook pages and websites of both of our county libraries. Coldspring, which has been holding a huge yard sale with fabulous furniture and other items, will start their Summer Program on June 9-12. The theme is Color Our World. Running from 9:30 a.m.-noon, children will have fun and learn at the same time. There is a limit to how many can enter the program. To know more call them at (936) 653-3104.

Shepherd Library holds its Summer Program, themed Space, on June 23-27. Children will learn and experience the solar system, the space race, life as an astronaut, black holes and aliens and a guest speaker, Gary Imm, will end the week with Constellations. There will be activities, a snack and a story each day with the program. The age group is 6-12 years old. Call (936) 628-3515 for information on this and other programs.

The Small Business Development Center holds many classes and courses for small businesses which are free or very low cost. One starts on June 10 and runs through Aug. 19 and is a bi-weekly class for childcare business owners. This is a free Zoom class, which runs from 1-2:30 p.m. It is described as a “Free statewide roundtable designed for childcare owners and operators to connect, learn and grow together.” Building relationships and learning from experienced childcare owners is high on the list. There are many other classes available, and to find out more go to www.sbdcinfo@uh.edu.

• Coldspring Methodist Church has a VBS June 16-20 from 5:30 8:30 p.m. The theme is Road Trip. Dinner will be served each night, and the students will rotate through crafts, music, discovery, recreation and Bible story. To register fill out the form at the church between 9 a.m.-3 p.m. or register at the first night class. Age range is 4 years old through 6th grade.

• Sunny is a friendly, good natured dog at the Animal Shelter on FM 2025. She likes people and is waiting to be adopted by someone. This Shelter has many dogs for adoption. Puppies and older dogs are available, two have only three legs but are able to get about easily.

Small or large, if you want a new pet, this is the place to look. All pets are neutered, have their shots and will be chipped when they have a new owner. Call for more information (281) 450-3676 or (281) 450-9007.

The Dog Shelter needs more volunteers to walk the dogs and help with feeding and cleaning. Especially in the afternoon, volunteers are needed for these tasks and at the same time will get to meet with others who also love animals and see this need. If you have a few hours during your week to spare for this, call the Shelter.

• Here is some exciting news about scholarship holder Easton Wolfe who graduated a week or so ago. I wrote about Easton when he was elected as President of the Shepherd Student Union. He will go to Drake University to study political science and will work as a legislative aide to Sen. Grassley and an intern for Sen. Peterson of Iowa.

He went with Sen. Peterson to Washington, D.C., and met the President at the White House. She thinks highly of Easton’s work, he was there co-writing a bill on Secondary Education, promoting more funding for students aiming to go to college or trade school, etc. Next week he travels to Des Moines to talk to the senators and will meet the people he will be working with. Easton has a very bright future, I am sure.
