Tangled Feet

“Psalm 25:15: Mine eyes are ever toward the Lord; For he shall pluck my feet out of the net.”

Years ago my family went swimming at Huntsville State Park at Huntsville, Texas. A diving platform was set about 150 feet from the shore. I decided to take our young daughter on my back as I swam to it.

I was a strong swimmer and had no doubt I could safely get us to the platform. But what I didn’t realize was the underwater plants would wrap around my feet and stop me from swimming forward. My feet became so tangled it took all the strength I had to just keep our heads above water. I soon realized we were in serious trouble.

My daughter was not a strong swimmer and if I pulled her off my back she could not swim on her own. My head bobbing under the water and then coming up to grab a breath of air was taking away all of my strength. In desperation I cried out to the Lord to please rescue us. Feet kicking and arms stroking as hard as I could my feet finally broke free.

I know it was a God thing. We made it to the platform and I thanked the Lord for delivering us. Life is full of surprises. Similar to underwater plants wrapping around our feet hidden dangers wait to entangle us. It is important that we keep prayed up. It is okay to pray when we are in trouble but it is best to pray everyday and praise the Lord for His goodness and faithfulness even when things are going good. Especially when things are going good.

You perhaps have a relative or a friend who only contacts you when they need you. We resent that. I suppose we disappoint our Lord when we only pray when we are in trouble. “For he shall pluck my feet out of the net.” David knew what it was to get in trouble while he was minding his own business.

Our enemy is real and relentless. Satan stepped aside after Jesus resisted him by quoting Scripture. “Luke 4:13 And when the devil had ended all the temptation, he departed from him for a season.” The word “departed” means to step aside. Satan does not give up.

If you are not facing demonic oppression you probably are not saved or not walking in the Spirit. But even though demonic oppression is a fact of life for the faithful Christian, never forget that: “1 John 4:4 Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.”

No matter how bad circumstances may seem to be Jesus is more powerful than all of the forces of evil and He will pluck your feet out of the net if you cast your cares on Him.
