As I sit here watching the seasons change from wintertime to springtime, I’m in awe of the beautiful weather we are now experiencing, As the temperatures warm and the trees start to bud, I’ve taken a minute to pause and think about how lucky and fortunate most of us are. I think of the song “I’m a Lucky man” by Montgomery Gentry. Where he sings about having his basic needs met and happy for that.
Most of us are beholding to a special person or persons in their life who assisted us to become the person we have grown up to be. I think of the ones who were blessed to have parents (whether a blended family or biological family) that took the time to love and raise their children to love others, respect others, and to cherish the opportunities we are given. Where they have instilled the virtues of an honest day’s wage for and honest days work. The simple things most of us take for granted.
I know I am thankful for my parents, who taught me right from wrong and for always wanting to be part of my life. I’m thankful for the other role models I have had in my life, that without them, I often wonder what direction my life may have taken.
I’m reminded of my teachers through my young years through high school, that taught me to read and write and to formulate a thought process that I needed to grow and prosper. I’m reminded of the opportunities I had as I participated in team sports from an early age to playing college football at Sam Houston State University. The coaches who took me under their wing and taught me how to be a man, how to play the game, as well as taught me the virtues of playing team sports such as hard work, work ethic, the extra hours (when all your friends are doing something else), and learning to work with others, that all correlate with the building blocks one needs to be successful in life.
So, when was the last time you picked up the telephone, wrote a note, sent a text message, sent an email, or told that person or persons in your life thank you?
When was the last time you took the time to make a positive difference in someone’s life?
Until we talk again. Call us if you need us.
