The love of God

Posted

The love that God has for us is so strong that he was willing to give his only son as a human sacrifice for our sins, giving us the opportunity to repent and return back to him.

Roman's 5:8 bears witness "but God demonstrates his own love for us in this: while we were still sinners Christ died for us. "

The love that God has for his people is called agape love.

This love is of and from God himself (1 John 4:8). Jesus gave the parable of the Good Samaritan as an example of sacrifice for the sake of others, even for those who may care nothing at all for us. Agape love as modeled by Christ is not based on a feeling; rather, it is a determined act of the will, a joyful resolve to put the welfare of others above our own.

The type of love that God demonstrates can only come from the source itself. We receive this thru the holy spirit when we become a true follower of Christ Roman's 5:5.

"What greater love than this that a man lay down his life for a friend" (John 15:13). Is there anyone among you that is willing to lay down his/her life that others may be saved?

John 13:34-35 urges followers of Jesus Christ to show the same sacrificial unconditional love he has shown each of us. Because of God's love towards us,  we are able to love one another. (1 John 3:16).

As we approach the week leading to our Lord and saviors crucifixion can you just think of the agonizing pain he endured on those days. The drops of sweat he shed in the garden that appeared as drops of blood,  Each lash he took ripping flesh from his body the crown of thorns on his head, the blood and water that flowed from his side. The task of carring the cross was so heavy causing one named Simon of Cyrene to be forced to help him. After all of this Jesus had to go through he yet looked around and asked his heavenly father to forgive them for they knew not what they were doing. Look at love hanging there for you and I being mocked, laughed at and ridiculed. All of this he endured for his.

True love and undefiled we find in 1 Corinthians 13:4-8: "4Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 8Love never fails."

We can testify for a fact that the love God has for his people never fails.
