Well, here’s the bad news. It’s only 21 more days until school starts. Do you remember as a kid how exciting it was when you heard only 21 more days until Christmas Day. With electronics and online shopping, we don’t even care what days mean any more. Most young people shop and have Christmas sent and paid for by October. The world no longer revolves around old people and their ways.
The good news is the older people have the money to enjoy the changes that technology has made. We don’t have to shop for children, grandchildren, or great grandchildren, and sending money is so easy now. The difficult part was learning the phone system apps. Done away with is the shopping, wrapping, shipping or mailing, no parking spaces at retail shops, weather conditions, and checkout lines. Now, what to do with all that time I saved?
• Last week I tried to give you some dates to remember that are coming up, but there were some errors regarding the dates I gave you. So, I am going to list them and correct them with some new dates for July and August events.
The errors I made in last week’s issue were regarding Liberty Christian Center and Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church events.
First, the Liberty Christian Concert is to be held in August is on Saturday, not the 25th. Second, Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church is hosting a spaghetti dinner on Aug. 23 and not a fish fry.
I will give details of these two events again next week, but I need to correct the errors at this time in this issue so people can make plans.
• Two successful events that happened this weekend were the fourth annual Prayer in the Park sponsored by the ROTC Church, and the inaugural golf tournament sponsored by First Methodist Church of Trinity at Westwood Shores Golf Course.
Prayer in the Park started at 9 a.m. and ended at 1 p.m. There were more than 20 churches that participated in this event and 300 school backpacks were given out to Trinity school children. Free food was given, and T.J. Allbright prepared 400 hamburgers for the crowd of people who attended. The food was donated by Dairy Queen and store manager Wille Cummings. Thank you so much for your generosity.
Music and a puppet show were provided by the Trinity Tabernacle Pentecostal Church under the direction of Brandon Pitt, and other school supplies and water were provided by the 20 churches participating in this event. Thank you, Karen Dixon, for your devotion to this event, and helping our community and TISD students.
First Methodist Church of Trinity rescheduled their golf tournament to July 19, and it was a huge success. The Facebook pictures were amazing. This was a fundraiser for the church, and they raised a great deal of money. They gave away fabulous door prizes, raffle prizes, and golf prizes. Congratulations.

• Two events I want to expound on next week are the Trinity Fair and the SAAFE House Fundraiser. Watch this space.
I am proud I live in a city that has so many activities and events for its citizens. No matter if it is winter, spring, summer, or fall, we have community spirit and support each other. Does everyone know everyone’s business? Yes, but here’s the thing; when some family is really in need or trouble, we answer the call to help them in their time of need without prejudice.
Trinity is a great community. See you at the Fair.
