Trinity transitions to four-day schedule this week

Posted

Well, this is the last week for TISD students to attend school on Fridays during this school term. Beginning on Monday, children have school only four days a week until the end of this year’s term in June 2026.

It is hard to believe football season is almost over, and basketball season will soon be in full swing. Even harder to believe is that there are only 58 more days until Christmas Day.

•There were two major fundraisers this past weekend and another major one happening this weekend.

First, Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church Festival was an awesome event for the entire church family. On Friday night there was a barbecue chicken dinner and bingo games into the evening. On Sunday there were food vendors serving all types of Mexican food, corn, and juices. There were delicious cakes to win, and delicious homemade hamburgers made by the men’s group. The music was wonderful in Spanish and American languages. Before the raffle drawings, five beautifully dressed women in authentic Mexican costumes performed dances to their traditional native music. It was a beautiful day.

Second, the Trinity Veterans’ Wall of Honor Fundraiser was a huge hit. The event was held at Scheelbillies’ Saloon on FM 356, and the benefit raised more than $25,000 for the Veterans and their needs. This was the Trinity Veterans’ 18th year hosting this fundraiser. The food was good, the music was good, the prizes were great, and the live auction and auctioneers were awesome.

Bill and his fellow veterans are the greatest. They help so many Veterans in Trinity County and the men do so many projects inside and outside for their fellow veterans. veterans’ home.

•On Friday night is the Trinity Police Department’s “Treats on the Streets” holiday event for the children of Trinity. One of the safest and best times for parents and children to have fun and dress up in costumes is this event. It is free and doesn’t cost to attend or participate. This is not a fundraiser. It is a secure community family event with family and friends thanks to our local Police Department.

•I am going to attend an event this weekend as it is the second annual purse bingo gala held at Camp Cullen, benefiting the Haley Burk Memorial Scholarship Foundation. It is so much fun, and the venue is in a beautiful — a wooded scenic camp setting. Dinner is wonderful and the camaraderie can’t be beat. It may be too late to get tickets, but you can still call and ask.

•Save the date. The Trinity Peninsula Chamber of Commerce Christmas Show is Dec. 6.

The Christmas vendor list applications and letters were sent out this week on Monday. If you do not receive notice by Friday, make sure you text me at (936) 537-8171 to see if I mailed you one or had the wrong address.

•It’s that time again, time to be a hero — one of Huck’s Heroes. In early 2024, I was lucky to meet a family whose husband and father had a passion for helping people in need throughout the year, but mostly he wanted everyone to have a holiday meal on Christmas Day. Unfortunately, in June of 2023, Mike Finn passed away before his dream was fulfilled.

However, Mike’s dream was carried out by his wife and daughter, and countless friends who raised more than $3,635 to buy food and items for people in need. They raised enough money to feed 16 Trinity families that year in 2023. These donations came from Indiana and Massachusetts.

In Texas, the friends became known as the Lake Crew, and with the donations from all three groups they were able to raise $7,650 in 2024, and feed 64 families in Trinity County.

In order to serve the appropriate families, Hulk’s Heroes worked with the Elf Station to help select and find the families in need for 2024. Consequently, the Elf Station gave the 2024 Elf Station Award to Hulk’s Heroes and rightly so. If you would like to contribute money or see what you can donate, please contact Char or Jason McWilliams at (317) 517-4570.
