As we turn the calendar to March, many of us are looking forward to the arrival of spring across Deep East Texas. It’s a welcome change of pace after a winter that brought its share of challenges, and a time when garden plans begin to take shape, local events pick up, and folks spend more time outdoors.
This season also brings our communities back together and keeps people engaged in the issues that matter most to their families.
With that, here’s an update from your State Capitol.
As conditions begin to warm up, much of the focus across Texas is turning to wildfire preparedness. Dry conditions, high winds, and increased outdoor activity this time of year can quickly elevate fire risk, particularly in rural areas. Even small sparks — from equipment, debris burning, or roadside activity — can lead to dangerous situations when conditions are right.
State and local officials are encouraging Texans to remain vigilant, follow burn restrictions where they are in place, and take simple precautions to protect their homes, property, and neighbors. Taking a few extra precautions now can go a long way toward preventing damage and keeping our communities safe.
These seasonal conditions also highlight the critical role our volunteer fire departments, law enforcement, and first responders play in keeping our communities safe. Whether it’s responding to wildfires, severe weather, or everyday emergencies, these men and women are on the front lines. Ensuring they have the support and resources they need remains an important priority.
Across East Texas, we’re fortunate to have communities that look out for one another. That sense of responsibility to take care of your neighbor is a defining characteristic of our region, and it’s something that continues to set Deep East Texas apart.
