AUSTIN –The Allan Shivers Library and Museum has again be selected to participate as a Partner in Preservation at the upcoming Real Places Conference in Austin.
The conference, which will take place from Wednesday, April 23 through Friday, April 25 at the Renaissance Hotel, is hosted by the Texas Historical Commission, and presented by the Friends of the Texas Historical Commission in partnership with Phoenix I Restoration and Construction, LLC.
The conference is now in its ninth year, and library director Kay Timme and museum director Roschelle Springfield will set up a display of items from the library and museum complex, along with general information about Tyler County.
“We will have the opportunity to visit with conference attendees from around the state,” Timme said.
According to the conference website, the conference provides an opportunity for preservationists and officials to network and learn with County Historical Commissions, Main Street managers and participants, historic preservation officers and design review boards, architects and engineers, historians, archeologists, curators, interpreters, managers of museums and historic sites, as well as THC staff, Texas Heritage Trail Regions, and many partner organizations.
Real Places will again be available to both in-person and virtual attendees. While we hope you’ll join us at the Renaissance Austin Hotel, we understand that not everyone can make it. If you join us online, you’ll be able to stream all conference sessions, and the recordings will be archived for viewing up to 60 days after the conference. In fact, the recordings will be available to all attendees—both in person and virtual—so you’ll be able to watch those great presentations you had to miss because you had to choose between concurrent sessions.
In addition to the regular programming, Real Places 2025 will feature in-person pre-conference workshops for various audiences on Wednesday, April 23. As part of the conference, the THC’s award-winning Texas Historic Courthouse Preservation Program will present special technical preservation sessions on maintaining historic buildings.
