Chester citizens to vote on alcohol sales

CHESTER – Chester City Council voted unanimously to allow a special election on the sale of alcohol for off-sight consumption at their regular monthly meeting Monday evening, Jan. 6.

Chester Mayor Robert Poynter and others have discussed this privately, during council meetings, and on Facebook for the past several months. Poynter noted that this will bring in revenue to the city from sales taxes, much needed revenue, as the city operates on a shoestring while keeping the Chester gas prices down and without any other sales or tax revenue. The city of Chester currently does not impose a city tax.

Chester public works employee Billy Thompson informed the council on a replacement gas line, about 100 feet, that will start soon near the Barnum Loop. All seemed to be according to plan and guidelines.  Councilman Bryan Davis ensured that the city maintain an easement as work progresses and tree felled.

The meeting agenda passed briskly without further ado.
