WOODVILLE – Tyler County 4-H youth proudly participated in a heartfelt Quilts of Valor presentation held at the Tyler County Nutrition Center on Monday, Sept. 29, to honor two deserving veterans for their service and sacrifice.
The event recognized Lt. Col. William Leathem, who served in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1975 as a registered nurse, and Dale Lanyon, who served in the U.S. Navy from 1952 to 1956 as a Machinist’s Mate, Third Class.
Both men were presented with handmade quilts created as a symbol of comfort and gratitude for their dedication to protecting our nation’s freedom.
Through this project, Tyler County 4-H members gained a deeper understanding of patriotism, community service, and appreciation for veterans. Youth were involved in helping coordinate the event and assist with the presentation, learning firsthand the importance of honoring those who have served.
The Quilts of Valor Foundation’s mission is to cover service members and veterans touched by war with comforting and healing quilts. Tyler County 4-H is proud to have supported that mission and to provide youth with the opportunity to give back in such a meaningful way.
