Early voting begins next week; alcohol measure on Chester ballot

CHESTER – Chester Mayor Robert Poynter wanted to remind residents of the early voting period which begins next week.

On the ballot for the City of Chester is a measure that would, if approved by the voters, allow off-premises sales of alcohol within the city limits of Chester.

Only registered voters who live inside the City Limits of Chester are allowed to vote on the issue. The benefit to allowing alcohol sales at the Dollar General is the city would get the sales tax revenue from those sales, Poynter stated in a Facebook post on the matter. “More revenue will allow the city, which has no city taxes, to work on the infrastructure around the city. Park upkeep, roads, and other projects needed around the city,” he added.

Early voting starts Tuesday April 22 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the afternoon and runs through Friday April 25.

We chose 3 to 7 to allow those who work and opportunity to early vote if they choose to do so.
Saturday May 3 will be Voting Day from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Voting will take place at the Chester City Hall
