WARREN – In a world of uncertainty, it’s good to know there are some things you can count on, especially living in a small community like Tyler County. For sure on the list, you will see things like the hope of a better tomorrow, and the determination of people when the odds are against them. However, of all the things on the list, good people doing good things ranks at the top.
We see that goodwill time and time again in Tyler County. When communities hear of someone going through a rough time, no matter what the reason, they jump into action. The question of “what can I do for you?” is quickly asked. The question posed is not just merely being polite. It is genuinely said with the expectation of getting an answer requiring some sort of action. Even though the usual response is “We’re good. Thanks for asking.”
The people in Tyler County are unlike any other group of people. When they hear the response, “we’re good” they don’t just leave it there. Most of the folks down on their luck, if you will, are not seeking the limelight. Although this time in their lives was not asked for and is not wanted, and they make every effort to “handle it the best they can”, it is a time for community support.
When Jeremy and Jenny Ramsey moved to Tyler County in 2021, the couple quickly realized it was a community they wanted to be a part of. “We were welcomed by so many people, complete strangers, who wanted to know if we needed anything or if they could help us out,” said Mrs. Ramsey.
“We moved here to fulfill a long-time dream of owning an event venue. I never realized until we started getting involved in this wonderful community, that this place and its people make my dream more than I could’ve imagined. And because of that – because of the people and how they’ve made us feel since moving here, we want to give back,” she went on to say.
In June of this year, the couple decided to start a new tradition at their venue, Ramsey Ranch, in Warren. They decided they would like to give back to the community as a thank you for the warm welcome they received when the moved here. Like everyone else, the Ramseys are feeling the pressures of everyday life. “Some days are just naturally harder than others,” commented Mr. Ramsey. “We are so blessed to be able to do what we do. I never want to take that for granted. Our philosophy has always been when you are blessed, you have to pass the blessings on. Kind of like paying it forward,” he said.
It was with that idea in mind the couple started planning the first Ramsey’s Ranch Hard Candy Christmas Gala. The idea behind this event is to bless Tyler County families who have fallen on “hard” times. “Sometimes when it comes to life,” Jenny said, “you just don’t understand why. You just can’t make it make sense. So that’s when your neighbors and friends come together to help you through the rough times. We can’t explain the why either, but we can love you through it.” Jenny went on to say, “These families have experienced the unimaginable and it is not our story to tell; and that’s not our intention. Our goal is to simply make this season a little brighter.”
The Ramseys are excited about this event and look forward to seeing the community come together for these families. The Ramsey’s Ranch Hard Candy Christmas will be Saturday, Dec. 7, starting at 5 p.m. The attire is Christmas Formal and guests should expect a beautiful night with dinner, dancing and plenty opportunities to give to these special families.
