COLLEGE STATION – Tyler County Judge Milton Powers, who is finishing out the second year of his first term at the head of the county’s government has a high note to end the year on.

Powers was recently recognized as a Fellow of the Texas Judicial Academy by the Texas Association of Counties (TAC).

According to a news release from TAC, the honor is awarded to county judges “who demonstrate a commitment to judicial excellence by surpassing the state’s minimum education requirements,” and it celebrates “judges who pursue continued learning to better serve their counties.”

The Texas Judicial Academy, according to TAC, is established to provide continuing education for judges, as well as court personnel, through a variety of educational opportunities, among several goals outlined.

Powers was inducted, along with several fellow Texas county judges, during the Academy’s Fall Judicial Education Session, which was held in College Station at the end of November.

The Academy is a collaboration between TAC and Texas Tech University School of Law. Its educational program is overseen by the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals, and includes instructional modules by instructors ranging from high court judges; law school faculty and other legal experts.
