Simons appointed to 496th District Court

HARRIS COUNTY – Last week Gov. Greg Abbott announced the appointment of Dan Simons to the 496th Judicial District Court of Harris County.

Simons, who has Tyler County ties, graduated Colmesneil High School in 1996, and was the first person in his family to graduate high school. From there, he served in the United States Air Force, and after discharge, worked in the fine arts world, selling paintings and running galleries.

He returned to Texas in 2005, and went through college, where he graduated at the top of his class at Sam Houston State University, with his bachelor’s degree. He earned his master’s in tax law from the University of Houston. He later received a Juris Doctor from Texas Southern University Thurgood Marshall School of Law,

and began working for the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.

Simons’ term expires on Dec. 31, 2026, or until a successor shall be duly elected and qualified, according to a news release from Abbott’s office.

Simons also was an attorney for the Thiessen Law Firm and has a total conviction rate of 84% in his work as Harris County’s assistant DA, where he has handled thousands of cases.
