TYLER COUNTY – Some months ago, a tourism council was formed with the intention of promoting tourism in Tyler County. Initially, when we researched online, we found only two attractions listed: Heritage Village and the Allan Shivers Library and Museum. While both of these are certainly worthwhile visiting, we were well aware that there is so much more to see, do, and experience in our county.
We got together and began brainstorming about all the activities and attractions Tyler County has to offer, and we came up with an extensive list. Holly Wells agreed to create our website, Visit Tyler County, which is located at visittylercounty.com, and shortly after that, we were assigned an intern from SFA to assist with the project.
If you haven’t seen the website, check it out. We have listed everything we could think of, from shopping to cemeteries. Of course, as new businesses, attractions, and events come into being, we want them to be listed. Therefore, we are inviting the public to let us know if there are things that you feel should be added.
The website is great, but now the question that has arisen is how do we share it with the world? We are in the process of creating brochures to be distributed in visitor centers and postcards with our QR code that will take folks directly to the website. We also need to promote via social media. We are very open to suggestions or assistance in any of these areas!
From birding in the Big Thicket to shopping at Dixie’s Vintage Vogue or Loretta’s Too, Tyler County has so much to offer.
As most folks know by now, Tyler County Development Foundation was created at the beginning of the year with the purpose of promoting economic growth in our county. Tourism is definitely a vital part of that.
Again, I invite anyone who has suggestions or would be interested in participating in any way to please let me know. My email address is: cathybennett.tcdf@gmail.com and my cell number is: 409-454-6082.
They say it takes a village, and I know that together we can make a tremendous difference!
