TYLER COUNTY – For many folks, Christmastime memories have a way of lingering in the heart long after the last of the crumpled wrapping paper has been tossed, and the tree lights all dimmed.
Christmases of years’ past are time capsules, with each year’s celebration holding feelings, faces, sounds and scents, which can each (or altogether) transport us back into times when the world felt simple, warm and full of possibilities. In revisiting these happy holiday memories, we can each tap into a kind of magic that keeps us all young at heart, no matter how many years might have passed.
Whether it’s the scent of pine needles, the crackle of a fire on Christmas morning or the excitement of unwrapping that coveted hot Christmas toy that you pined for, we here at Booster HQ want to know about your favorite Christmas memories.
What is your favorite, stand-out Christmas memory, or what is your most memorable gift you received?
The Tyler County Booster is preparing a special project for the coming Christmas season, which will appear in the Thursday, Dec. 18 edition, and we would love to include your Christmas stories as part of it.
Please send in your story or favorite memory to cedwards@polkcountypublishing.com. The deadline is Friday, Dec. 5.
The simple elements that make for so many memorable holiday celebrations become powerful symbols to us, and you know the feelings they stir inside yourselves, so we would love to know about them and to share them with the community around us, too. These brief return trips to those feelings can make the present moments feel lighter.
In addition to written recollections of Christmases past, we also welcome your photographs. This coming special section to celebrate the season will include your Christmas memories, photos (if you are so inclined to share), the traditional Letters to Santa from area schoolchildren, as well as information about community Christmas events and church services.
We will also give you information about ways you can contribute to non-profit organizations throughout the Christmas season, and there will be beautiful Christmas cards from Tyler County businesses.
The Christmastime season tends to bring out the best in people, and those memories formed around acts of generosity and togetherness stay with us, whether it’s the warm memories of a family gathered around a kitchen table to decorate cookies, or having neighbors over for a meal, kindness matters, and the shared memories of love and goodwill can help make the world around us better, so please help us in this endeavor.
In holding onto the magic of Christmas past, we carry its light forward, illuminating our days with warmth, hope, and the quiet belief that joy is always worth finding.
