WOODVILLE – It’s a banner year for Woodville Eagles quarterback Luke Babin, and the triumphs just keep coming.
The junior, who just keeps racking up impressive personal records, game after game, verbally committed last Wednesday to play collegiate ball for Vanderbilt University, a Southeastern Conference school in Nashville, Tenn.
Babin said that he is “grateful for my family, coaches and teammates who’ve supported me on this journey.”
The SEC school Babin will play for is a powerhouse, and is so far undefeated this season, with the Commodores having taken down schools like George State and Virginia Tech.
Babin, who has been a starter for the Eagles, since his sophomore year, last year, led the team to its historic UIL 3A Division 2 state championship run.
According to reports, he has had offers from several other schools, including Baylor University; the University of Houston; Texas Christian University and Texas Tech. Reportedly, Texas Tech, in Lubbock, was eyeballing him in 2024 prior to his sophomore season.
Babin continued his season of highlights last Friday against the Trinity Tigers, when he threw a new career high 365 yards and eight touchdown passes, with 22 completed passes out of 31 attempts, and 48 rushing yards on seven carries.
In five games this season, Babin had 77 completed passes out of 116 and 1,280 yards combined for a 66.4 completion rate.
Last season, he notched 2,106 yards and 23 touchdowns for the Eagles.
