Chester takes on Colmesneil in tournament

The Yellowjacket baseball team went 4-0 in their hosted tournament March 5-7 earning them Team Of The Week by Texas High School Baseball. The Jackets beat Latexo 6-1, Union Hill 6-0, Deweyville 17-3, and Wells 16-0. Greyson Rosencranz finished the tournament with a .600 average in 11 plate appearances including 6 hits, 4 RBI’s, 4 runs, and three stolen bases. Rosencranz also picked up one win on the mound, striking out three and leaving three on base.

Jayse Gay batted a .500 with three hits, 4 walks, 6 RBI’s, 4 runs, and one stolen base. Gay also had 5 innings on the mound with 7 strikeouts. Jaxon Gay also batted .500, led runs with 8, 5 hits, including two doubles and a triple, 5 RBI’s, and 5 stolen bases. Turner Johnson finished with a .429 average with 3 hits, 3 RBI’s, 7 runs, 5 stolen bases. Bryson Swanson also finished with a .429 on 3 hits, 5 runs, 5 stolen bases. Jesse Bittick had two hits including one triple, 4 RBI’s, 4 runs, two stolen bases. Bittick also helped in the circle with three innings pitched striking out five. Weston Wiseman, Coltin Kosina, Rex Gilzow each had one hit. Gilzow had 4 RBI’s, 5 runs and made an appearance on the mound facing 8 batters, striking out three. This week the Jackets host Colmesneil on Tuesday, March 10 with a 4 p.m. game time. On Friday the Jackets travel to Abbott to participate in a tournament there with game times to be announced. 



•The Lady Jackets traveled to Colmesneil on Tuesday, March 3 to face the Lady Dogs. The Lady Jackets scored in the first inning after Allie Ogden walked and Ty Cochran earned a RBI, each scoring one run. Jorja Barnes led the Lady Jackets with two hits, Ogden, Barnes, and Lillie Byrd each had one RBI. The Lady Jackets racked up 15 walks with Byrd and Tegan Toler having three walks each. Joyanna Lopez stole two bases. Ultimately the Lady Jackets fell 8-13.

On Friday, March 6 the Lady Jackets traveled to Onalaska. Even though the Lady Jackets out hit the Lady Cats 10-4 they still fell 16-6 after a grand slam in the bottom of the 5th. Kennedi Wilson led the Lady Jackets with three hits and also had one RBI. Tegan Toler hit a solo home run to left field, added another hit, and had two RBI’s, Ty Cochran had two hits and two RBI’s. Lillie Byrd, Sadie Garsee, and Kendal Watton each added one hit. 

This week the Lady Jackets will get another chance against Colmesneil at home on Friday, March 13 with a 4:30 p.m. game time. 



•The track team traveled to Corrigan for their second meet of the season on Thursday, March 5. Allie Ogden placed first in the discus, Kasen Citrano earned third in shot put and 8th in discus, and Ethan Gray placed 4th in the 110m hurdles. This week the team will travel to West Hardin, field events start at 3 p.m.
