TRINITY – The Woodville Eagles started district last Friday with a trip to Trinity County to take on the Tigers. The Eagles wound up knocking the Tigers off their heretofore perfect season with a 53-6 win.

The Tigers took the opening kickoff and after gaining 25 yards with a run and pass combination, the Eagle defense took over and forced a punt after consecutive sacks. The fast-paced Eagle offense took their opening drive 75 yards and scored their first touchdown of the game.

After forcing another Tiger punt, the Eagles were able to again march down the field, but a defensive stop by the Tigers forced the Eagles to kick a field goal and take a 10-0 lead.

The second quarter did not fare any better for the Tigers as they were consistently stopped by the Eagle defense and were unable to stop their high-powered offense and the Eagles were able to add two more scores and take a commanding 32-0 lead into the locker room at halftime.

The Eagles received the opening kickoff of the third quarter and drove the ball 61 yards and extend the lead to 38-0. The Eagles were able to force another Tiger punt and again found the end zone and a 45-0 lead.

The fourth quarter opened with the Tigers in possession of the ball and on a drive that began on their own 30-yard line, were finally able to find the end zone with a four-yard run. With Trinity trailing 45-6, the Eagles were able to score another touchdown as time expired and defeat the Tigers 53-6.

The Eagles improved their overall 4-1 with their first district win. This Friday, they will take on their old cross-county rival Warren at home.

The Warriors are still smarting from their shut-out last week by New Waverly, and currently sitting 1-4 for the season.
