The Lady Jacket volleyball team traveled to Garrison on Friday, Nov. 1 to face the Lady Bulldogs in a playoff warm-up match.
The Lady Jackets defeated Garrison 3 sets to 0 with scores of 25-12, 25-15, and 25-21. Lily Read led in kills with 17. Read also had a solo block, 5 digs, and 13 service receptions. Marae Pounds had 11 kills, 4 aces, 6 digs, and 3 service receptions. Josie Pecina and Ty Cochran each had 4 kills. Cochran also added 2 solo blocks while Pecina added an assist, 1 dig, and 4 service receptions. Lily Payne had 2 kills, one solo block, and 2 digs. Emma Byrd ended with one kill, 13/13 on the service line with one ace, 9 digs, and led assists with 31. Sydney Brock was 4/4 on the service line and rounded out the defense leading in digs with 21 and in service receptions with 19. Kyli Handley also added 3 digs and 4 service receptions. The Lady Jackets will travel to Centerville to face the Buckholts Lady Badgers in the Area round of playoffs on Thursday, November 7 at 6pm.
The Yellowjacket football team continued district play this week in Burkeville on Thursday, Oct. 31. The Jackets fought hard the entire game but ended up short with a score of 50-78.
Jesse Bittick had 20 carries for 211 yards with 4 touchdowns, one catch for 6 yards, and went 7/11 in passing for 102 yards and one touchdown. Kasen Citrano had 7 carries for 14 yards, 6 catches for 86 yards and one touchdown, 3 kick returns for 45 yards.
Turner Johnson had one 17 yard touchdown catch and 4/6 in passing with one touchdown. Rex Gilzow got in the offensive action with 4 catches for 75 yards. Jayse Gay had 1 catch for 2 yards and 1 kickoff return for 20 yards. Bryson Swanson had 2 carries for 30 yards, 2/2 passing with 19 yards, 2 touchdown returns for 65 yards with one touchdown. Swanson also had 4 tackles and 3 passes broken up. Blake Zulpo had 3 returns for 57 yards and also had one touchdown. Zulpo added a field goal block and 4 tackles on defense. Citrano had 6 tackles, Bittick with one pass broken up and 10 tackles, Gay added 5 tackles, one pass broken up, and one fumble recovery. Clay Busey had 5 tackles.
The Jackets will play at home this week against High Island at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 8. The Senior class of 2025 and their parents will be recognized at halftime.
