Lady Jackets take on Richards at home

The Lady Jackets faced Richards for Senior Night on Friday, Oct. 25. Seniors Sydney Brock, Emma Byrd, Kyli Handley, Elizabeth Lopez, Madi Ogden, and Lily Read were recognized with their parents before the game. The Lady Jackets won the first set 25-21, then lost the next set 23-25, but came out on top the next two sets with scores of 25-13, and 25-21.

Lily Read and Marae Pounds led the offense with 21 kills each. Read also picked up one ace, 2 solo blocks,4 digs, and 23 service receptions. Pounds was also helpful on defense with 11 digs and 5 service receptions. Lauren Citrano had 4 kills, went 19/19 on the service line, one solo block, 14 digs, and 19 service receptions. Lily Payne also picked up two solo blocks, one ace, one kill, 2 digs, and one service reception.

Ty Cochran was helpful on the net picking up one solo block and three kills. Emma Byrd finished with 44 assists, putting her just over the 1,000 mark for the season. Byrd also had one ace and 9 digs. Sydney Brock once again led defense with 32 digs, 26 service receptions, and also picked up 2 assists. The JV Lady Jackets also beat Richards in 2 sets to 1.

On Monday, Oct. 28 the Lady Jackets traveled to Leggett for the last district game of the season. The Lady Jackets won in three sets with scores of 25-2, 25-6, and 25-5. Marae Pounds led kills with 11 and picked up 5 aces pushing her past 100 aces for the season. Emma Byrd led in aces with 10, and led in assists with 21. Josie Pecina had 8 kills, Lily Payne had 4 kills and 7 aces. Sydney Brock picked up 4 aces and had 7 digs. Lauren Citrano had 2 kills, 3 aces, and one dig. The Lady Jackets go into playoff action with a record of 36-9. They will play a warm-up game at Garrison on Friday, November 1 at 4:30 p.m.

 

‘Jackets start district with win against Eagles

On Friday, Oct. 25 the Yellowjacket football team played Apple Springs at home for their first district game of the season. With six minutes left in the fourth quarter the Yellowjackets defeated the Eagles by mercy rule with a score of 84-39. Jesse Bittick had 16 carries for 300 yards with 6 touchdowns, 3 receiving touchdowns, 7 tackles, and one pass break up. Kasen Citrano had 12 carries for 185 yards with 3 touchdowns, one catch for 30 yards, 8 tackles, and one forced fumble.

Blake Zulpo had two carries for 21 yards with one touchdown, 9 tackles, one fumble recovery, and one blocked extra point.

Turner Johnson had one touchdown fumble. Defensively Bryson Swanson led with 10 tackles, 4 pass break ups, and one interception. Jayse Gay also had 10 tackles and one pass break up. Clay Busey ended with 6 tackles. The Jackets will continue district play in Burkeville on Thursday, Oct. 31 with kickoff at 7 p.m.
