ZAVALLA – The Lady Jacket softball team traveled to Zavalla to face the Lady Eagles on Friday, April 10. The Lady Jackets came out on top 25-9. Sadie Garsee and Allie Ogden both had three hits. Garsee added two RBI’s, one stolen base, and one run. Ogden hit a solo home run, a double, 4 RBI’s, and three runs. Ogden also faced 10 batters in the circle, striking out six. Ty Cochran, Joyanna Lopez, Jorja Barnes, Lillie Byrd, Kennedi Wilson each had one hit. Byrd had three RBI’s, Lopez, Wilson, Harley Jones each had two, Barnes, and Tegan Toler had one RBI each.
This week the Lady Jackets will play Apple Springs in a non-district game on Friday, April 17 at 4:30 p.m. On Tuesday, April 21 the Lady Jackets will start their playoff run vs Broaddus with a double header. Location and times are still to be determined.
The Yellowjacket baseball team picked up another district win vs Zavalla on Friday, April 10 beating the Eagles 9-1. Jayse Gay finished with a 1.000 average with three hits and one walk on four plate appearances. Gay scored three runs and stole two bases. Weston Wiseman, Bryson Swanson, Turner Johnson, and Rex Gilzow had one hit each. Johnson had an in the park home run, two RBI’s, two runs. Wiseman scored one run, and Jesse Bittick scored one as well.
This week the Jackets play Apple Springs at home at 4 p.m. A win in this game will give the Jackets a District Championship and a loss will place them second going into the playoffs.
The Yellowjacket boys track team brought home the District Champion title on April 8 at Hull Daisetta. Area qualifiers are Turner Johnson placing first in the 200-meter, and second in the triple jump and long jump. Kasen Citrano won the shot put and placed third in discus. Ethan Gray placed first in the 110-meter hurdles, and second in high jump. Blake Zulpo placed second in 110 hurdles. Jesse Bittick placed second in shot put, Jaxon Gay third in 100-meter, and Henry David placed third in the 400-meter.
The 4x100 relay team placed first with Jesse Bittick, Kasen Citrano, Greyson Rosencranz, and Jaxon Gay. The 4x2 relay also placed first with Bittick, Gay, Citrano, and Turner Johnson. The 4x400 relay team with Bryson Swanson, Braysen Neal, Weston Wiseman, and Henry David placed second.
The girls team also had Area Qualifiers. Allie Ogden placed first in girls discus. The 4x100 and 4x200 teams with Lauren Citrano, Joyanna Lopez, Kennedi Wilson, and Sadie Garsee both placed fourth. The Area meet on April 16 will be held at San Augustine starting at 9:30 a.m.
